How do you heal yourself?

Everyone has the power to heal.

Healing is a creative choice, a conscious act. When it comes to your own healing, you have more power than you may know. Healing yourself is an everyday way to live, and isn’t only for when you are sick or injured.

Everyone has a different definition of what 'self healing' means. For you, it may mean that you’re living a life that fulfills you. For example, maybe healing yourself means that you actively seek relationships that are based on mutual respect, trust, and love. You do work that is meaningful for you. You can speak your truth without, or even in the face of, fear. You listen to your body and give it what it needs. You are able to let go of control you didn’t have to begin with. You don't expect the impossible from yourself, you get off your own back. You know how to live and let live by allowing others to be who and where they are now.

When you speak your truth in spite of the fear, you make your own energy a priority within yourself.

It is possible to create an illness or injury (unconsciously) so that you can find your truth. When you’re not feeling well, you are often forced to stop and be still. This can have the effect of helping you to become aware of truths in your life that you have been ignoring or side stepping. Your body will ‘make’ you stop ceaselessly moving. If you’re constantly in action mode, always having to be doing something, you may not be taking the time to simply be, to sit still and listen to your body’s wisdom.

If you wake up every day dreading your job or obligations for that day, stress is already running through you. If you ignore your body and don’t listen to its needs, you will create imbalance within yourself. Your body will try to get you to listen to it, and if you do, you can heal your body by making changes within yourself and in your life.

Heal your spirit, and your spirit can heal the body.

If you tell yourself the truth, and allow your choices and actions to reflect that truth, you are healing yourself. If you allow yourself to feel what you feel, be who you are, create what you want to create, speak out when you want to, if you stop and listen to your own internal wisdom – you are on your healing path.

Remember that you don’t have the power to ‘make’ others heal, though you do have an effect on them when you lead by example. You can give of your spirit, share yourself, act consciously. We inspire and affect others with our words, actions, and choices. Show how you’ve learned to heal yourself by doing it, but don’t try to make others do it your way.

Not all healing paths look the same.

Not all healing may even look like healing to you. For you, healing yourself may mean stepping out of a relationship that stifles or invalidates you. For another person, stepping up within a relationship that doesn’t work is the answer. You may find your healing by living in nature, getting closer to the earth, while someone else finds healing in the energy of the city.

Finding what is true for you is the key, and your truth will change as you do. You can heal yourself by embracing flexibility, consciousness, and letting go!

We need to give each other the space to grow, to be ourselves, to exercise our diversity. We need to give each other space so that we may both give and receive such beautiful things as ideas, openness, dignity, joy, healing, and inclusion. -Max de Pree
